Everything You Need To Know About Nightbirde, The Late Singer-Songwriter
Following the passing of American Singer-Songwriter Jane ‘Nightbirde’ Marczewski, we spotlight the superstar’s inspirational life both on and off stage.
Nightbirde was born Jane Marczewski on 31 December 1990, and she passed away on 19 February 2022, after battling cancer for six years.
Early life
The 32-year-old was from Ohio, USA. She’s from a family of four and graduated from Liberty University, a private university in Virginia. Marczewski studied communications but was interested in making music during her undergrad years. She eventually kickstarted her musical career under the name Jane Marczewski, long before she earned her degree.
She snagged her first public performance soon after and released two EPs independently. In 2015, after getting married, she moved from Virginia to Nashville, Tennessee, and contributed as a musical act to a documentary. She and her husband got separated in 2020 before she auditioned for America Got Talent.
Music career before America Got Talent
Before appearing at the American Got Talent audition, she adopted the stage name Nightbirde, which came from a repeated dream she kept having. Also, she had released her first-ever song, “Girl in a Bubble” (2019) — a beautiful indie-pop piece. Marczewski was an opening act for American singer-songwriter Tori Kelly‘s Liberty University performance. Nightbirde followed her debut song with “It’s Ok” (2020) — a reflection on how she left Nashville for California, where she auditioned for the sixteenth season of America Got Talent. The song’s lyrics also hinted at her journey to recovery following her multiple diagnoses of cancer, making it the perfect song for her to perform at the widely-watched show.
America Got Talent
Nightbirde walked on to the stage of the sixteenth season of American Got Talent and delivered a beautiful rendition of her above-mentioned song. Her performance mostly overwhelmed all the four judges (Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell). Simon Cowell was so moved that he gave her the rare Golden Buzzer approval. However, just a few weeks into the show, she announced her departure after revealing how her battle with cancer would no longer allow her to continue competing. During her time on America Got Talent, she earned a no.3 spot on Billboard’s Weekly Chart as Top 10 Emerging Artists alongside Bella Poarch, Duncan Laurence, Lainey Wilson, Coi Leray, Jameson Rodgers, and Walker Hayes. “It’s Ok” also made it to Billboard’s Digital Download Weekly Chart, peaking at no. 3.
Nightbirde’s battle with cancer
The singer first got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, and after some treatment, she was declared cancer-free. However, in 2019, her cancer resurfaced, and she was given a minimum of three to six months to live. By 2021 when she auditioned for America Got Talent, her cancer had worsened, and she had only a 2 percent chance of survival.
