How to turn off autoplay on Facebook

If you are accessing Facebook with a browser, here are some tips on how to turn off autoplay videos;

  • Go to the drop-down menu at the top right of the page.
  • Select “Settings and Privacy”
  • Search for the “Videos”
    listing on the left-hand menu. Inside the option, there’s a toggle where you can turn off autoplaying videos.

Note; Facebook has similar options available for turning off autoplay options for its iOS and Android apps.

If you are using the iOS App, here is what to do;

  • Click the menu button on the bottom of your screen.
  • Once you’re there, scroll down and tap “Setting and Privacy” then “Settings.”
  • Scroll down until you find ‘Media and Contacts, then tap on it.
  • Tap on “Autoplay” and set it to ‘Never Autoplay Videos

How to turn off Autoplay on Twitter

To turn off Autoplay on Twitter, do this;

  • Click on “More” in the left-hand menu and then on “Settings and privacy.”
  • Select “Accessibility, display, and language” > “Data usage.”
  • Tap on the “Autoplay” setting. You can then switch off the autoplaying of videos on your feed.

If you are using the iOS and Android Apps, do this instead;

  • Tap the profile picture at the top of your phone screen.
  • Select “Settings and privacy.”
    in the menu.
  • Navigate to “Data usage,” “tap on “Video autoplay,” and set it to “Never.”

How to turn off autoplay on Instagram

Instagram, unfortunately, doesn’t allow for autoplay videos to be turned off; however, follow these steps carefully. Videos won’t autoplay with sound if you use Instagram on your browser; stopping autoplay on mobile devices is possible, but it is elaborate.

To use a Mobile App, do this;

  • Go to your profile page and tap on the three lines in the upper right corner
  • Go to “Settings” > “Account” > “Cellular Data Use”
  • For Android, toggle the “Data Saver” and tap on “High-Resolution Media.” If you select “Never,” then media such as videos won’t load in advance.

How to turn off autoplay on Reddit

Reddit is a private social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website where registered members can submit content to the site as links, text posts, images, and videos. The posts on Reddit are organized by subject into user-created boards called “communities” or “subreddits,” which cover topics such as news, politics, religions, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking, pets, and image-sharing. As of September 2021, Reddit was ranked as the 19th most visited website globally and 7th most visited in the United States according to Alexa Internet.
